WHO: World Health Organization On The Ground To Fight ‘Disease X’, Calls For More Than 300 Scientists: The Covid-19 pandemic has shown just how ill-prepared we are to deal with such pathogens. And so that it does not happen again, the World Health Organization or ‘Who’ started working in advance.

Pandemics or epidemics around the world. Until 2019, it was only a fantasy. This idea was given in many novels, and movies, but no one could believe that it could ever be seen in reality. The Covid-19 pandemic has struck at the root of that mistrust. The entire world was completely paralyzed for almost a year. After coping with that strong shock, human civilization is slowly returning to the rhythm. The Covid-19 pandemic has shown just how ill-prepared we are to deal with such pathogens. And so that it does not happen again, the World Health Organization or ‘Who’ started working in advance. The UN-affiliated agency said it has created a priority list of pathogens that could cause future pandemics like Covid. These pathogens are now being closely monitored to prevent future outbreaks. And on the priority list is ‘Disease X’.
However, this is not the first time Hu has made this list. The World Health Organization made such a list for the first time in 2017. Then the list was updated in 2018. At that time, however, no one outside of scientists was particularly bothered by that list. But, since that research was done, it has become possible to quickly develop an effective and safe vaccine for Covid-19. The list was updated again in 2022 after the years of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The current list includes COVID-19, Crimean-Con’s hemorrhagic fever, Ebola virus disease, Marburg virus disease, Lassa fever, Middle East respiratory syndrome or MARS, Severe respiratory syndrome or SARS, Nipah virus, Henipaviral disease, Rift Valley fever, Zika, and disease. X. While human civilization is already familiar with the rest of the pathogens or diseases, Disease X has yet to be encountered. Actually, Disease X is not a disease. The term ‘Disease X’ is used to describe an unknown pathogen that could cause a severe global pandemic. Unknown diseases such as Sars-Cov-2 are included in this list so that they do not bring human civilization to a standstill. The World Health Organization has invited more than 300 scientists from around the world to research a total of 25 virus families and bacteria, including Disease X.
Dr. Michael Ryan, executive director of WHO’s Health Emergencies Program, said research on these high-priority pathogens and virus families will help develop vaccines to prevent future pandemics. He says, “Targeting these priority pathogens and virus families is essential for a rapid and effective pandemic response. Without significant investment in research and development prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, it would not have been possible to develop a safe and effective vaccine in record time.” World Health Organization chief scientist Dr. According Soumya Swaminathan, this list is a reference ‘point’ for the research community to tackle the next pandemic threat.
