Mythology
It is said that father Mahadeva and mother Parvati once conducted a little test to test who loved their parents more, the elder son Kartika or the younger son Ganesha. They told the children that the son who can reach them first by circumnavigating the universe will prove to be the one who loves them the most. Shona Matira Kartikadev rode out on his peacock’s back to circumambulate the universe. On the other hand, Ganesha circled his parents and said with folded hands, to him, parents are the embodiment of the universe! Hearing this, father Mahadev and mother Parvati were very happy. After some time, Kartikdev also came back from traveling around the universe and saw Ganesha sitting holding the money of his parents. Then he became angry with his father Mahadev and mother Parvati after learning about Ganesha’s intelligence. He feels that parents are more affectionate towards the younger son. He sat on the peak of Cronch mountain to calm his anger and started austere penance abandoning flesh and bones and showing his devotion to his parents. Tourism
Uttarakhand Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj said that the Uttarakhand Tourism Department has decided to develop this temple to attract tourists from Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka.
Poonam Chand, Additional Director of the Tourism Department of that state, said that they have paid special attention to the development of Kartik Swamy temple. Apart from this, some other places are also being improved for the purpose of attracting tourists in the coming winter.
