The eleventh date of the Hindu calendar is called Ekadashi. All sins are eliminated by observing Ekadashi fast dedicated to Lord Shri Hari. With the effect of this fast, all the sufferings of life are removed and divine fruits are attained. It is believed that there is no sacrifice, penance or charity beyond Ekadashi fast. A person observing fast on Ekadashi gets the fruits of all pilgrimages and yagyas.

Donation has special significance in Ekadashi fast. Do not be angry with anyone on Ekadashi. Speak sweet words Tamasic food should not be taken. Complete celibacy should be followed. Stay away from indulgence. It is also forbidden to pluck a leaf from a tree on Ekadashi. In this fast, read the Shrimad Bhagwat Gita. Must make night awakening. Om Namo keep chanting Bhagwate Vasudevaya. Recite Vishnu Sahasranama. On the day of Ekadashi one should not sweep the house, because there is a fear of death of micro-organisms. Hair should not be cut on this day. Should not speak too much. Do not take food given to anyone. On the day of Dwadashi, the Brahmins must provide sweetmeats, Dakshina. Salt should not be used in this fast and food should not be eaten in a bronze vessel.
