The Official Said That No Madrassas Have Been Approved For The Past Seven Years: On August 30, the BJP government in UP instructed the district magistrates to conduct a survey on unrecognized madrassas. Following this, the report of the survey, which started on September 10, was submitted by the district magistrates to the government on Tuesday.

“The survey of unrecognized madrasas in 75 districts of the state has been completed today (Tuesday).
The administrators of various districts have sent copies of the survey report to us and the state government.

Moradabad district has the highest number of unrecognized madrasas (550). Such madrasas were found in Siddharth Nagar (525) and Bahraich (500).

No further action will be taken based on the report.” Uttar Pradesh Madrasa Education Board Chairman Dr. Iftikhar Ahmed Javed said.

“Initially, many false stories were spread with the intention of stopping the survey, but we defended it all and told people that there is no hidden agenda behind the survey.

Administrators of unrecognized madrasas have approached us and expressed interest in affiliating them with the UP Madrasa Education Board. These madrasas will also get the benefits of various government welfare schemes if approved. “The successful completion of this survey by the UP government is a model for other states,” Javed added.

The Indian Express reported that an official stated that there are currently more than 25,000 madrasas in UP, of which more than 16,000 are government-recognized, but no madrasas have been recognized by the government for the past seven years.

At the same time, many Muslim organizations and political parties had earlier come out against the Yogi Adityanath government’s decision to conduct such a survey on madrassas.

All India Muslim Personal Law Board, Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi, and BSP leader Mayawati also criticized the survey.

Uwaisi called the survey a ‘mini NRC’.

UP Board of Madrasa Education was established in 2017. The board was established with the intention of checking irregularities in the functioning of madrasas in the state.
