Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee Working President and Senior MLA Satish Lakshmana Rao’s comments addressed to the Hindus on Jharki Holi are creating a political uproar. Controversial remarks were made that he would be ashamed if he knew the meaning of the word Hindu. A video of his remarks has gone viral on social media and is causing a political uproar. Satish Lakshmana Rao Jarkiholi is the Working President of Karnataka Congress Committee and represents the Karnataka Legislative Assembly from Yamakanamardi constituency. He also served as a minister in the previous Siddaramaiah government. Recently speaking at a program in Belagavi, his comments saying that the word Hindu has anything to do with India are causing a lot of trouble. He said that the word Hindu has an indecent meaning and the word comes from Persia. Controversial remarks were made that it has no roots in India. Without stopping there, he made bitter comments that he would be ashamed if he knew the meaning of Hinduism. Congress leader Satish Lakshmana Rao’s Jarkiholi remarks are angering the Hindu communities along with the BJP. BJP leaders say that these comments reveal the real nature of Congress and its ideology. Protests are being held across Karnataka.
Assembly elections will be held in Karnataka next year. As the elections are approaching, the comments made by a senior Congress leader and the party’s working president have given the party a headache. Karnataka BJP leaders are criticizing that Jharkiholi has exposed the opinion of the Congress party against Hindus. BJP says these comments are insulting and provocative to Hindus.

The Congress party responded as Jharkiholi’s comments were likely to embarrass the party. He strongly condemned his controversial comments. Senior Congress leader and member of the Rajya Sabha Randeep Singh Surjewala responded. Randeep Singh Surjewala tweeted that Jarkiholi’s comments are unfortunate and Hinduism is a way of life.
