Retail inflation for industrial workers declined to 3.67 percent in December 2020 due to lower food prices, compared to 9.6 percent in the year-ago period. The Ministry of Labor said in a statement that the inflation rate based on the All India Consumer Price Index (CPI-IW) for industrial workers was 5.27 percent in November 2020, based on which retail inflation is evaluated.

Food inflation for casual workers stood at 2.89 percent, compared to 7.48 percent in the previous month and 12.22 percent in the year-ago period. All India CPI-IW declined by 1.1 percent during December, and stood at 118.8. Labor Minister Santosh Gangwar said the fall in inflation in December was mainly due to food items and this would increase the purchasing power of families belonging to the working class.
