In a meeting chaired by Assam Border Defense and Development Minister Atul Bora, representatives of the two states discussed key issues related to the border dispute. CM Pema Khandu along with ministers and MLAs of both the states and high officials of various departments attended this meeting. Pema Khandu spoke to the media after this meeting. He said that after the historic Namsai announcement, many meetings were held between the two states on the border dispute. This meeting can be said to be the last in this series.
“After the final agreement, another meeting will be held between me and Assam CM Dr. Himanta Biswa Sharma for a permanent solution. Both the states are determined to resolve all the differences between us by the end of November,” said Pema Khandu. Following the Namsai Declaration, Khandu said 12 committees have been formed under the leadership of the Cabinet Ministers of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. These committees jointly visit the disputed areas, take feedback from the people of both sides and submit their reports to the respective state governments.
Khandu said on the reports of the committees.. “Today we discussed these reports in depth. “All the reports are positive and I am happy that the committees of the two states have worked honestly and jointly to find a permanent solution to this border issue,” he said. He said that if there is strong political will, no problem will remain unsolved for decades. Pema Khandu thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for encouraging smooth dialogue between the two neighboring states to resolve the border dispute out of court.
On the occasion, CM Khandu thanked Dr. Himanta Biswa Sharma for personally coming forward to resolve the boundary line not only with Arunachal Pradesh but also with other northeastern states that share borders with Assam. Khandu said that the love and cooperation of the people of Assam always motivate him to work with enthusiasm and spirit to resolve border issues. They stated that they are determined to resolve the border issues for peace and harmony between the loving people of Assam – Arunachal Pradesh.. This will be acceptable to all.
