Pakistan Police has reported a case of marrying a 14-year-old girl on Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) leader and National Assembly (MNA) member from Balochistan, Maulana Salauddin Ayubi. The local police has started an investigation in this regard.
Citing local media, the Pak Observer has reported that the police have launched an investigation after receiving a complaint from an NGO working for the welfare of women in Chitral. According to a report by Dawn, the girl is a student of Government Girls High School, Jughur. Her date of birth was recorded here on 28 October 2006. This shows that the girl was not married at her age.
According to Pakistan media, Maulana Salauddin Ayyubi is a member of the National Assembly and is over 50 years of age. SHO Inspector Sajjad Ahmad of Chitral Police Station was quoted as saying that the police had reached the girl’s house a few days ago on the complaint of the organization. There, her father denied the girl’s marriage and also gave an affidavit to this effect.
Let us tell you that the age of the girl for marriage in Pakistan has been fixed at 16 years. The law there also recommends punishment for parents if they do so. According to the Pak Observer, the MP has confirmed only nikah with the girl while a proper marriage ceremony is yet to be held.
