Violent clashes broke out between activists of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the opposition Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) during a by-election in Pakistan’s Punjab province on Friday. During this firing two people were killed, while eight people were injured.
In the by-election for the NA-75 seat of the National Assembly in Duska, a violent clash occurred due to poor security. In the video footage, policemen are not seen anywhere during the brawl. The two parties have blamed each other for the violence.
Firdaus Ashiq Awan, Special Assistant Information Officer in the PTI-led Punjab government, said that the two people killed in the violence were PTI activists while the remaining eight were injured by bullets fired by security personnel of the PMLN candidate.
He said the police would not spare the culprits and the PMLN leaders who instigated the violence. At the same time, PMLN spokeswoman Maryam Aurangzeb said that her party worker was killed in a bullet fired by a PTI worker. He said that four PMLN workers were shot, whose condition was critical.
