Gujarat BJP has refused to give the election ticket to PM Narendra Modi’s niece Sonal Modi. Sonal had sought a ticket from the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. The party says that according to the new rules, relatives of big leaders will not be given tickets in this election. Sonal has not been given a ticket under this.

Body elections are due in Gujarat in late February. Sonal is the daughter of the Prime Minister’s elder brother Prahlad Modi, who is also the president of the Gujarat Fair Price Shop Association. Sonal had told the media on Tuesday that he had sought a ticket from the BJP to contest from Bodakdev ward of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. The BJP released its first list of candidates on Thursday, so Sonal was not named in it.

When Sonal’s ticket was cut, when media asked Gujarat BJP President CR Patil the reason for this, he said that BJP is a party where rules are equal for everyone. The elections to be held in these cities of
Gujarat will be voting on February 21 for the Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, Vadodara, Jamnagar and Bhavnagar municipal corporations elections of Gujarat. The counting of votes will take place on 23 February. Voting for 31 zilla panchayats, 231 tehsil panchayats and 81 municipalities of the state will be held on February 28 and counting of votes will take place on March 2.
