Celliandi Amman Temple is an ancient temple located in Bhavani, Erode district. The temple is under the control of the Department of Hindu Religious Affairs. The festival is held annually in the month of February at this temple.

With this year’s corona control regulations, the planting of the pole took place on the 26th, starting with the potluck on the 16th. This was followed by the main event of the festival, the devotees going directly to the Goddess at the Sami Sanctuary and pouring water on the 3rd. Thousands of people from Erode and Namakkal districts attended the festival.

They went to the nearby river Cauvery to fetch water and anoint Sami with turmeric, milk, yoghurt and rose water which he had brought from home. It is believed that the goddess Celliyanti will save the town from infecting the people living in the area. In addition, people in the temple pray to the Sami that those who do not have the gift of children will not have to suffer from illness in the family to avoid further setbacks in the profession.

In this temple, devotees go inside the sanctum sanctorum and anoint Sami with items including water. In temples in Tamil Nadu, it is customary for the priest to perform anointing and performing pujas. However, it has been a long time since devotees entered the sanctum sanctorum on the day of the Bhavani Celliandi Goddess festival.
