Malayali students beat up in Delhi for profanity: By writing to the Union Education Minister A.A. Rahim M.P: AA has written to the Union Education Minister regarding the attack on Malayali students of Delhi University. Rahim M.P. Rahim said that racist violence cannot be accepted and it is shameful that such violence took place on the campus of one of the leading universities in the national capital.

Rahim added that the central government should immediately intervene to ensure that the perpetrators of hate attacks are brought to justice.

Last day, a group attacked Malayali students studying at Delhi University. The incident took place on the North Campus of Delhi University. Vishnu Prasad and Akhil from Wayanad and Gautam and James from Kannur were beaten up.

When they saw Vishnu Prasad standing naked, the three people on the bike mocked him. Vishnu Prasad asked the abusers to leave. Enraged by this, the trio beat them.

The attack was carried out by racially abusing them, thinking that they were students from South India. The students said they were beaten up by saying, ‘Why are you wearing a mundi?’, ‘This is no place for you to wear such clothes’.

Vishnu Prasad said that the group that came on the Haryana registration bike beat them with a belt. While trying to save Vishnu Prasad, other students were also beaten up.

The students responded that the assailants held up strings tied to their hands and revealed that they were members of the Delhi University Students’ Union. The victims also alleged that they filed a complaint with the police but no action was taken.

SFI had alleged that ABVP was behind the attack. SFI said that the violence against students coming to study in Delhi from outside is a continuing story. SFI has demanded immediate action on the violence against the students. The students filed a complaint at the Morris Nagar police station.

A.A. Rahim’s Facebook post:

The local-based hate attack against students from Kerala studying in Delhi University is condemnable. The attack was allegedly for walking around wearing a lungi.

Language and dress were the cause of hatred. The group of drunken assailants physically assaulted the students because of their dress code. The students of Delhi University were victims of hate violence. Students injured in the attack are undergoing treatment.

It is shameful that such violence took place on the campus of one of the leading universities in the national capital.
Further action should be taken to ensure that university campuses and premises are safe places for students and that they do not have to fear such hate attacks.

Steps must be taken within universities to ensure that everyone including students, administration, and faculty is aware of respecting the nation’s diversity.
The central government should urgently intervene to ensure that the perpetrators of hate attacks are brought to justice.
