A Chennai court has issued an order directing that the trial in the DGP Rajesh Das sex case be held under the supervision of the High Court.

The Chennai High Court has voluntarily taken up the sex case against Special DGP Rajesh Das.

Earlier, the Tamil Nadu CID had registered a case against Special DGP Rajesh Das on the basis of a sexual harassment complaint lodged by a female IPS officer.

According to police sources, a case has been registered under Section 354 (assaulting, attempting to assault a woman), Sections 3 and 4 of the Tamil Nadu Sexual Harassment (Prevention) Act.

On February 22, Chengalpattu S.P. tried to stop the victim’s vehicle on his way to Chennai to lodge a formal complaint against Das. The panel will also investigate the role of D Kannan IPS.

The Tamil Nadu government has ordered the formation of a panel to probe Rajesh Das on the basis of a sexual harassment complaint. However, the victim, an IPS officer, continued to demand that a criminal case be registered. In this context, an FIR was registered against DGP Rajesh Das and SP D Kannan on the orders of CBI-CIT officials.
However, since the accused is a senior police officer, it would not be proper for any section of the police to conduct an investigation. Political leaders have suggested that at least the trial be expedited under the auspices of the High Court.
In this context, the Chennai High Court, which had voluntarily heard the sex case against Rajesh Das at 2.30 pm, said in the order that the trial should be completed expeditiously under the supervision of the High Court.
Last month, Chief Minister Palaniachai campaigned in the Pudukkottai district. DGP Rajesh Das has gone to Pudukottai from Chennai to oversee the security operations. DGP Rajesh Das then complained to a female SP of the district who greeted him that he had been sexually abused.
The victim, an IPS officer, has come to Chennai to lodge a complaint with the Chennai DGP Tripathi. It was alleged that the then SP D Kannan, who had detained him in Chengalpattu district on the instructions of DGP Rajesh Das, had forced DGP Rajesh Das to speak on the phone in order to prevent the female IPS officer from lodging a complaint.
