The second phase of the budget session of the Parliament will begin on Monday. However, the duration of the session is likely to be cut in view of the assembly elections due in March-April in four states and one union territory as most of the top leaders will be busy in campaigning . As per the schedule, the session is to conclude on April 8. Sources said that in view of assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Kerala, Assam and Puducherry, all parties are in support of cutting the duration of the session. However, an official decision is yet to be taken in this regard.
In addition to this mandatory agenda, the government has also listed several Bills to be passed in this session.
Bills listed by the government include the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (Amendment) Bill, National Funding Infrastructure and Development Bank Bill, Electricity (Amendment) Bill, Crypto Currency and Official Digital Currency Regulation Bill.
The second phase of the budget session is taking place at a time when the focus of all political parties is on the assembly elections in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Kerala and Puducherry. Elections are to be held in these states in March-April. The first phase of the budget session started on 29 January. Under this, the Union Budget was presented on 1 February.
