The Election Commission has announced the arrangements and restrictions for the forthcoming Assembly elections. Accordingly, 702 Flying Corps has been set up across Tamil Nadu to prevent various activities including money laundering, cash and gift delivery.
The flying squadrons are divided into level monitoring team, video surveillance team, video viewing team and computation team. It is customary to hire video and photographers in the respective areas to videotape the work of these groups and to videotape the polling and counting of votes.
But now that the Election Commission has given the right to take video to a private company, the videographers allege that the Election Commission pays 2,050 rupees for 8 hours, forcing the private company to pay only 600 rupees instead of paying the entire amount to the video and photographers.
In this situation, more than 50 video and photo cinematographers belonging to Veppur taluka next to Virudhachalam in Cuddalore district submitted a petition to the Virudhachalam Collector. In it, they called for the abolition of the right to videotape photography to a private company during the election process, failing which all photographers and their relatives would boycott the election.
Moreover, they have said that the Election Commission is currently acting in a manner that destroys their livelihoods, as employment in the Corona period has been severely affected by the absence of any auspicious events, and that the Election Commission should revoke the license given to the private company to improve the livelihood of photographers, otherwise they will have to engage in a total election boycott.
