Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) won in Abu Dhabi on Saturday in the 24th match of the 13th season of IPL. He defeated Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) by 2 runs in a thrilling contest. Chasing a target of 165 runs, Punjab’s team could only manage 162/5 runs in the prescribed 20 overs. This defeat came as a big blow to his hopes in the tournament.

With this, Kings XI Punjab suffered their fifth consecutive defeat. This was his sixth defeat in 7 matches. On the other hand, this is Kolkata Knight Riders’ fourth win. This was the sixth match for Kolkata. 

The Punjab opening pair gave a great start. Captain KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal (56 off 39 balls) added 115 runs for the first wicket. Which made the road easier for Punjab, but KL Rahul (74 runs, 58 balls) was dismissed on the last ball of the 19th over. Punjab team could not score 14 runs to win in the last over. The last ball required sixes to take the match to the super over, but Glenn Maxwell was able to hit a four. 

Kings XI Punjab had 22 runs in the last three overs to win and had nine wickets left, but Sunil Narine and the famous Krishna allowed Punjab to score only 19 runs and took two wickets each. 

Punjab had scored 76 runs in 10 overs. 

Chasing the target, Punjab scored 47 in six overs of the power play without any loss, while scoring 76 runs in 10 overs. In the second over of the match, Russell was given a life by dripping a catch by Russell on the famous Krishna ball. He hit the first and second ball of Pat Cummins in the 13th over, hitting the fourth half of the season in 42 balls. This is the 19th half-century of his IPL career.

In the fourth ball of the same over, Mayank stole a run and completed the half-century. The famous Krishna ended Mayank’s innings by taking a catch by Shubman Gill in the 15th over. He scored 56 runs in 39 balls with the help of six fours and a six. 

Pooran Bold in the spin of big shot 

After this, Nicolas Pooran, running in rhythm, came to bat. He made the last two balls of Nagerkoti in the 16th over and then reduced the distance to the ball and the required runs by hitting a six, but he was bowled by a big shot off Naren’s ball in the second ball of the 18th over. He scored 16 runs in 10 balls. Naren gave just two runs in this over, which again increased the pressure on Punjab.

Naren did not give freedom in the last over

Krishna took advantage of this pressure and made the match exciting by taking the wickets of Prabhasimran (four) and Rahul by giving just six on the 19th. Rahul scored 74 runs in 58 balls with the help of six fours. In the last over, the team needed 14 runs to win, but despite the presence of Glenn Maxwell (10 not out), Naren gave just 11 runs in this over. Naren got two, while Krishna got three successes for KKR. 

KKR scored 164/6 runs  

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), batting first, scored 164 for 6 wickets in 20 overs. Man of the match captain Dinesh Karthik scored 58 runs in 29 balls with the help of 8 fours and 2 sixes. 

Karthik shared an 82-run partnership for the fourth wicket with opener Shubman Gill (57). He was run out on the last ball of the innings. Gill was run out in the 18th over. Shubman Gill scored 57 runs in 47 balls with the help of five fours.

Can score 25/2 runs in 6 overs of power play

Earlier, the Punjab team bowled tight in the early overs of the match, allowing KKR to score just 25 runs for two wickets in the six overs of the power play. Shubman Gill hit the fourth ball of the first over, but Arshdeep Singh, who came to bowl from the other end, put pressure on KKR by putting on a maiden over. 

The pressure was benefited by Mohammed Shami, who bowled Rahul Tripathi (four off 10 balls) off the fourth ball of his second over. Nitish Rana was run out by two runs in the next over. 

Eoin Morgan could not play big innings

After this, Eoin Morgan and Gill managed the game further. Morgan completed his 1000 runs in the IPL by hitting Shami’s ball in the sixth over. Morgan hit the first six of KKR’s innings in the 10th over off Mujib ur Rehman. 

In the next over, young spinner Ravi Bishnoi dismissed Morgan to break up his 49-run partnership with Gill for the third wicket. He scored 24 runs in 23 balls with the help of two fours and a six. 

Karthik took an aggressive stand

After this, Dinesh Karthik, who came to bat, took an aggressive approach. Karthik hit a six off the last ball of the 14th over and then hit three fours in the 16th over by Arshdeep. Meanwhile, Gill completed his half-century by hitting a boundary off the third ball of the 15th over. Gill was run out on the last ball of the 18th over.

Russell failed once again 

Russell failed once again with the bat and scored five runs in three balls and caught a catch off wicketkeeper Prabhasimran off Arshdeep. Shami, Arshdeep and Bishnoi got one success each for Punjab, while Mujib and Chris Jordan proved to be quite expensive. KKR scored 81 runs in both their eight overs.
