Caribbean batsman Chris Gayle of Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) has indicated that he may play his first match of this IPL against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Thursday. He has recovered from stomach pain (food poisoning).

The team’s head coach Anil Kumble said that Gayle could not play in the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) due to ‘food poisoning’. This 41-year-old explosive batsman did not play against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Saturday as well.

Gayle shared a picture from the hospital on social media, while Kings XI released a picture of Gayle returning to practice on Monday.

Gayle said in a brief video, ‘My reply to all the fans, now the wait is over. The Universe Boss (also known as Gail by this name) is back. I know that all of you have been waiting for this for a long time, if nothing dramatic happens to the Universe Boss, then understand that your wait is over. I hope nothing bad happens.

He said, ‘It is still possible (to make a place in the play-off). I know that we are in the last place in the marks table, but it is still possible. There are seven matches left and we believe that we can win all seven matches, it is still possible.

Gayle said, ‘I appeal to all the players to be confident. As I said, we can only go up from here. We can do that.

Earlier, a team source said, “He is healthy now and is expected to play in the match against RCB.” The match will be held in Sharjah where the ground is the smallest of the three IPL match venues.

Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul have given Kings XI a good start so far and Gayle did not get a chance to play. Kings XI have lost six out of seven matches and will now have to do something special to make it to the play-offs.
