In the India-England Test series, India’s international umpires Anil Chaudhary and Virender Sharma will debut as umpires in Test cricket. Anil Chaudhary will officiate in the first and Virender Sharma in the second match. Anil Chaudhary will play the third umpire in the third match.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Thursday announced a high-level international umpire panel for the India and England series. It also featured Anil Chaudhary and Virender along with Zol Wilson, Michael Gough and Nitin Menon. Also C Shamshuddin will play the role of the third umpire in the first Test match, although this will not be considered his debut, as the on-field umpiring is considered officially valid.
Javagal Srinath will be a match referee in both the Tests in Chennai. The umpires for the third and fourth Test will be announced later. Currently, the international umpire panel consists of four umpires from India. The first match of the series between India and England is to be played from 5 February. The first two matches of the series are to be played in Chennai while the last two are to be played in Ahmedabad.
