Lt Gen (retd) Asim Bajwa, Special Information and Broadcasting Assistant to Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, resigned from his post on Monday amid allegations of corruption. Former Pakistan Army spokesman Bajwa said that I requested the Hon’ble Prime Minister to be relieved of the additional charge of Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on information and broadcasting. He accepted my request.
According to the Dawn newspaper, however, he will continue to be the chairman of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor Authority. He has been the Commander of the Southern Command. Bajwa submitted his resignation to Khan more than a month ago. Khan then did not accept Bajwa’s resignation and asked him to continue in the post of special assistant.
Before that, a website had reported that he had misused his positions in setting up business of his wife, sons and brothers abroad. The website states that Bajwa’s younger brothers opened their first Papaz Pizza restaurant in 2002. In the same year, Bajwa started acting as a Lieutenant General during the tenure of General Pervez Musharraf.
It claims that his brother Nadeem Bajwa (53), who started work as a delivery driver for the pizza restaurant franchise, and three other brothers, wife Farrukh Jeba and three sons, now have a large business empire. He has 99 companies in four countries. They also have pizza franchisees of 133 restaurants worth $ 3.99 million.
