The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court took automatic cognizance of the Hathras gangrape case. The matter was heard in the High Court on Monday. During the hearing in the High Court, statements of the victim’s family were recorded, while the court also expressed displeasure over the police action.

In the High Court, the victim’s family members alleged that the family’s consent was not taken for the funeral, nor was she included in the funeral. DM told the crowd and law and order behind the funeral at night. On this, the family members of the victim also harassed the DM that there was a huge police force, then how did law and order deteriorate?

The victim’s family feared to be implicated in further investigation. Also expressed concern about safety. The High Court had summoned Additional Chief Secretary Home, DGP Hitesh Chandra Awasthi, ADG Law and Order Prashant Kumar as well as Hathras DM Praveen Kumar and SP Vikrant Veer. The next hearing of this matter will be held on November 2 in the High Court.

At the same time, apart from Lucknow, there was a stir in Hathras. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has also started investigating and registering a case. The investigation team of CBI reached Chandpa police station under the leadership of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Seema Pahuja. Earlier in the morning, the family of the victim was sent to Lucknow under tight security. The Deputy Collector (SDM) Anjali Gangwar and the CO also accompanied the family members.

Hearing in Supreme Court on 15 October

Significantly, in the Hathras case, the Supreme Court is also to be heard on October 15. The Supreme Court had asked three questions to the UP government. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the UP government, sought time till October 8 to reply. No additional affidavit has been filed by the UP government even 4 days after the October 8 deadline passed.

The court had asked the UP government what arrangements have been made for the safety of the victim’s family and witnesses. Does the aggrieved family have an advocate for lobbying? The Supreme Court had also asked what is the status of the trial in the Allahabad High Court? With no additional affidavit filed in the Supreme Court on behalf of the UP government, law experts say that the UP government may give the maximum information on the basis of the hearing in the Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court and the ongoing development. Questions were raised on the role of police

Please tell that the gangrape victim of Hathras died during treatment in Delhi. After the demise, the body of the victim was taken to Hathras, where the victim was cremated by the police after midnight. Police were accused of forcibly conducting funerals. When questions were raised about the role of the police, the UP government handed over the investigation to the SIT. Later, the UP government had also recommended the case to be investigated by the CBI.
