Voting is going on in six big cities today, ie on Sunday, under the civic elections in Gujarat, which will run from 7 am to 5 pm between anti-Covid-19 measures. The Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Bhavnagar, Jamnagar and Rajkot municipal elections are being seen as a test for Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who can decide the mood for the next year’s assembly elections. Officials said that there will be voting for a total of 575 seats, for which 2,276 candidates are in the fray. Of these, 577 are from BJP, 566 from Congress, 470 from Aam Aadmi Party, 91 from NCP and 353 from other parties and 228 are independents. In this regard, an election official said that the total number of voters in these six cities is 1.14 crore, out of which 60.60 are male and 54.06 lakh female voters.

He said that out of 11,121 election booths, 2,255 have been declared sensitive and 1,188 have been declared extremely sensitive. The counting of votes will take place on 23 February. He said that after this, elections will be held for 31 districts and 231 taluka panchayats and 81 municipal bodies on 28 February. Rupani, who is suffering from Covid-19, may be discharged from the hospital late at night and may vote in his hometown Rajkot on Sunday.
