Google is once again shocked. Google Ireland and Google France will pay a fine of 1.1 million euros (about Rs 9.7 crore). Google Ireland and Google France agreed to fill penalties after an investigation that revealed that Google’s hotel rankings could be misleading to customers. France’s finance ministry and fraud watchdog said this on Monday.

France’s finance ministry and watchdog has also said in a statement that Google has changed its hotel ranking practices from September 2019. The Directorate General of Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control (DGCCRF) of France started an investigation into the matter in September 2019 after receiving a complaint from the hotels. Earlier, in December, France’s online data privacy watchdog fined Google 35 million euros. It was imposed for violating rules related to fine cookies.

At the same time, Google has signed a deal with Seven West Media of Australia. Now Seven West Media has become the first major news outlet in the country to have a licensing deal with Google. Seven West Media has said in its earnings announcement that it will supply content for Google’s news showcase platform. However, the news outlet has not revealed the terms of the deal. Seven West Media owns a free-to-air television network and Main Metro Newspaper in Perth.
