Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has spoken of putting a lockdown in the city after 6281 fresh cases of corona virus were reported in Maharashtra on Saturday. He said the lockdown can be imposed again if people do not desist from breaking the rules.
The number of Covid-19 infections in Maharashtra now stands at 2,093,913. This is the second time since December last year that more than 6000 cases a day have been reported in the western state. A total of 51,753 people have died in Maharashtra due to corona virus disease.
Although the government has not yet called it a ‘second wave’, local authorities have been instructed to take all preventive measures, including lockdown restrictions. Weekend curfew has been imposed in several districts including Amravati and Akola since Saturday night, while in Yavatmal, a 10-day curfew has been imposed from 18 February which prohibits the mobilization of five or more people. Schools and colleges in Wardha have been ordered to remain closed until further notice.
Thackeray chaired a meeting with the Health Minister, Divisional Commissioners, District Collectors, Municipal Commissioners and Superintendents of Police on Covid-19 status in the state on Saturday. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said in a statement in Parliament on February 11 that India and China had reached an agreement to remove troops from the Pangong Lake region in a phased manner. He said that according to the agreement, China would withdraw its troops and move to the east side of the Finger Eight area in the northern shore of Pangong Lake.
