The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced that polling for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections will be held on April 6 in a single phase. Following this, the political parties are making preparations for it.

The four villages of Amuthunnakudi, Nedungulam, Chettikulam and Kombankulam under the Sathankulam Union of Thoothukudi district have a population of over 3,500. The people of the area allege that proper road and bus facilities have not been provided to these villages. The people of the area have announced that they will boycott the elections as they have not been asked for their basic facilities repeatedly for about 10 years.

Roads up to Amuthunnakudi, Nedungulam and Duvarkulam are damaged causing severe difficulties for public transport. The people of the area say that they have not been seen petitioning the union authorities several times to fix this and provide transport facilities.

Villages under Satankulam Union declare boycott of elections

The four villagers have decided to boycott the forthcoming assembly elections as the struggle has been going on for 10 years and have put up billboards for it. They have also hoisted black flags in their villages. Led by Satankulam Union Councilor Brenilla Carmel and Highway Safety Consumer Committee member Bonnie Boss, the above four villagers, including youth and college students, have announced that they will boycott the coming assembly elections. They have also demanded that the District Collector take appropriate action in this regard. Thus the villages in the area are seen as bustling.
