Jorhat district and sentry judge in Assam on Monday convicted 25 people in the case of lynching (beating and beating by mob) of a hospital medical officer at Teok Tea Estate in the district.
The District and Sessions Judge of Jorhat, Robin Phukan, pronounced 25 people guilty in various sections while delivering the verdict. One of the accused died in custody during the hearing. Court sources said that the sentence will be pronounced on 19 October.
The incident took place on 31 August 2109 when senior medical officer Deban Dutta (73) was attacked by a mob in which he was seriously injured and later died.
