Subhashini Raj Rao, daughter of former Rajya Sabha MP Sharad Yadav, who heads the Loktantrik Janata Dal and is close to Nitish Kumar, joined the Congress on Wednesday morning. A few hours after joining the Congress, the party announced him as its candidate from the Bihariganj assembly seat in Madhepura district. Here he will face JDU candidate Niranjan Kumar Mehta. Earlier, it was said that he would contest elections from RJD.
Sharad Yadav will not be able to campaign for his daughter!
Due to poor health, Sharad Yadav will not be seen campaigning in Bihar this time. This will probably be the first time after the Emergency when elections are being held in Bihar and Sharad Yadav should not go there for campaigning. He recently returned home after being discharged from AIIMS. While being admitted to AIIMS, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar called him several times and took his help. Subhashini Raj Rao then publicly thanked Nitish Kumar. Addressing reporters at the Congress headquarters in Delhi, Subhashini said, “His father has not been able to participate in the election campaign in Bihar due to illness.”
This time Bihar Congress, RJD and Left parties are contesting in alliance. They will directly face the NDA fighting under the leadership of Nitish Kumar. Out of 243 seats in Bihar Legislative Assembly, Rashtriya Janata Dal is on 144, Congress on 70 and Left parties in 29 seats. Among the Left parties, CPM has been given 4 seats, CPI 6 and CPI Male 19 seats.
Madhepura is considered to be the stronghold of Sharad Yadav
Sharad Yadav, originally from Madhya Pradesh, has been elected MP from Madhepura in Bihar on the JDU ticket in 1991, 1996 and 2009. Sharad Yadav has also been the president of Nitish Kumar’s party Janata Dal United. But he was expelled from the party in August 2017 after being accused of involvement in anti-party activities. After which he formed the democratic Janata Dal. However, this new experiment of Sharad Yadav was not successful.
