The US military has launched attacks on armed groups backed by Iran in eastern Syria. The US has taken this action in response to rocket attacks on its troops’ bases in Iraq. “On the instructions of President Joe Biden, the US Military Forces has attacked the infrastructure of Iranian armed groups in eastern Syria on Thursday,” said US Defense Ministry spokesman John Kirby. It is said that about 17 fighters of armed groups have been killed in this action. The US spokesman clearly stated that this action was taken in response to the rocket attacks on US military bases in Iraq.
John Kirby said, “This action has taken place in response to the recent attacks in Iraq on the military bases of American and NATO forces.” According to the Pentagon, American fighter jets have dropped 7 500-lb bombs targeting 7 targets. One of these destinations is the crossing along the border of Iran and Syria. The US says the crossing was used by Iran-backed militant groups for arms movements. Kirby said many of the bases of Iran-backed groups have been destroyed in these attacks. These groups include Qatayb Hizbollah and Qatayb Syed al-Suhada.

A Syrian human rights organization has confirmed more than a dozen Iran-backed fighters killed in US attacks. Rami Abdul Rahman, director of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, said, “Three trucks have been destroyed in the US attacks on which Iran-backed groups had loaded weapons.” Apart from this, a large number of deaths have also taken place. Initial information has been received that around 17 combatants have been killed. The group says that all of the fighters are from the Hashd al-Shaabi group, the main organization of Iran-backed armed groups.
