The Allahabad High Court has stayed the final selection of the final selection of 180 posts of Assistant Professor at Lucknow University. However, the court has allowed the selection process to continue. The next hearing of the case will be held on 10 March.
According to the news agency PTI, the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court has granted an interim stay on the release of the university’s final selection list while hearing a petition filed by a candidate for the post of Assistant Professor in the Department of Anthropology of the University. In this petition, the applicable provisions regarding reservation of seats of many departments have been challenged.
The bench of Justice Irshad Ali has given permission to continue the selection process by vacating one post till the completion of the hearing of the petition of Dr. Preeti Singh, candidate from General category of Lucknow University. In the recruitment advertisement released in September 2020 by the petitioner Dr. Preeti Singh, the recruitment process for four posts in the Department of Anthropology has been challenged.
The petition states that all the four posts have been reserved due to the application standards of Lucknow University. In such a situation, she has been denied application. While on behalf of Lucknow University, the Advocate has told the Bench that 10% additional Central Government reservation has been implemented by the University on 7 March 2019. Due to this, the reservation limit has been increased by 50 per cent, whereas the UP Lok Sabha Service Act 1994 does not apply here. Let me tell you that the bench of Justice Irshad Ali has ordered Lucknow University to file its counter affidavit within two weeks.
