Like the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has now sought suggestions from the state associations for organizing the longer format of Ranji Trophy and the 50-over tournament of Vijay Hazare Trophy. The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy has been a successful event during the Corona era and now its finals will be held on 31 January at the newly constructed Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad. The BCCI had sought suggestions from the state associations for the start of the domestic season and all the state associations had unanimously suggested that Mushtaq Ali be held first.

The BCCI now has to decide which tournament it will host after the end of January. Several state associations have reported that the BCCI contacted them and asked for suggestions as to which tournament to be held after Mushtaq Ali. Odisha’s direct answer in this matter was – Vijay Hazare. Most state associations believe that Vijay Hazare should be organized as it would be difficult to organize Ranji in limited time. But the Andhra Cricket Association has asked the BCCI to explore the possibility of organizing the Ranji Trophy as a white ball tournament has been held.

The priority of the Mumbai Cricket Association is the Vijay Hazare Trophy. In this context, the opinion of the National Selection Committee and its Chairman Chetan Sharma has also been sought, who have sought the advice of their colleagues. The 14th season of the IPL is scheduled to take place and during this time the BCCI has two months left in which it wants to host domestic tournaments. BCCI President Saurabh Ganguly is in favor of holding the Ranji Trophy during this period.
