Shahid Afridi century in 37 balls: On October 4, 1996, Shahid Afridi, Pakistan’s youngest batsman, had scored the fastest century in cricket history against Sri Lanka. Shahid Afridi was famous all over the world by completing a century in just 37 balls. When Shahid Afridi made this world record, he was only 16 years old and he became the youngest player to score a century. But now after nearly 24 years, this record has started to be questioned.
Manipulation of Shahid’s age ?
The great thing is that on this record of Shahid Afridi, questions have been raised by one of his tweets. Shahid Afridi tweeted a tweet thanking his loved ones on his birthday. In this tweet, he said that I am 44 years old today.
After 24 years, the question on this record of Afridi, is he really the first young player to score a century?
Why are questions arising ?
Significantly, according to the official records of the International Cricket Council i.e. ICC, Afridi’s present age is 41 years. Interestingly, Afridi wrote in his autobiography that he was born in 1975, according to which he is 46 years old today. However, he had made it clear in his autobiography that while scoring the fastest century, I was not 16 years old but 19 years old. He is now being trolled on social media for manipulating the figures of his age in different places.
… so Shahid is not the youngest player to score a century ?
If Shahid Afridi is 46 years old today, then he is not the youngest player to score a century in ODIs. Because Afghanistan’s Usman Ghani scored 118 runs in 143 balls against Zimbabwe in the year 2014. Then Usman’s age was 17 years 242 days. In such a situation, if Shahid was 19 years old then Usman Ghani became the youngest player to score a century in ODIs.
