Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan’s ‘Coolie Number 1’, Bhumi Pednekar’s ‘Durgavati’ and Rajkumar Rao’s ‘Chalap’ are being released on the OTT platform. Amazon Prime Video has released its list of new film releases for the year 2020, including these three films. According to the list, a total of 9 films in 5 Indian languages Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam will premiere on Amazon Prime by December.
Christmas occasion has been chosen for the release of Coolie Number 1 directed by David Dhawan. The film will be streamed on Prime Video on 25 December. Kuli Number One is a remake of the 1995 film with the same title, in which Govinda and Karisma Kapoor played the lead roles. The film was to be released in theaters earlier, but due to the outbreak of Kovid-19 it was decided to release the film on the OTT platform.
The second major Hindi film on Amazon is Durgavati, in which Bhumi Pednekar played the lead role. It is a horror-thriller film, which also stars Akshay Kumar in production. The film is directed by G. Ashok. Durgavati is a remake of the 2018 hit film Bhagmati, in which Anushka Shetty played the lead role. Durgavati will feature Bhumi alongside Jisshu Sengupta, Akshay Kumar, Arshad Warsi and Mahi Gill in pivotal roles.
The leap directed by Hansal Mehta will be released on 13 November. The film stars Rajkumar Rao and Nusrat Bharucha in the lead roles. It is a sports film, also produced by Ajay Devgan.
Along with Hindi, Amazon has announced the release of 6 new films in the South Indian languages Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. In order of release date, firstly, Malayalam’s Halal Love Story will come on October 15. Then Kannada’s Bhima Sena Nalahamaraja will be released on 29 October.
Tamil film Sooraray Pottru will appear on October 30, with Surya appearing in the lead role. Kannada film Manne number 13–19 November, Telugu film middle class melodies 20 November and Tamil film Mara on 17 December. R Madhavan and Shraddha Srinath will be seen in lead roles in Mara. All these films will be streamed simultaneously in 200 countries.
