A bill to provide statutory status to people associated with 56 types of ancillary services in providing medical care in addition to doctors in hospitals was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. Health and Family Welfare Minister, Dr. Harsh Vardhan, after presenting the National Assistant and Health Defense Professionals Commission Bill 2021 in the House after the Question Hour, said that the Assistant Health Workers working in hospitals since independence in the country were not given statutory status.
Lab technicians, radiologists, physiotherapists, dieticians, X-ray technicians, CT scans and MRI technicians etc. play an important role in providing health services. He said that these health workers have played a very important role in the period of Kovid epidemic. Therefore, bringing this bill on the occasion of International Health Worker Year in 2021 is a very important step.
Dr. Harshvardhan said that in this bill, there is a proposal to create a National Assistant and Health Defense Professional Commission which will work as a uniform regulatory system. Apart from this, a Central level and State level Assistant Commissioners and Health Defense Professional Advisory Council will be set up. Through this, through the training and skill development of health workers, avenues will be opened for career advancement and increase in employment opportunities in the country and abroad.
