25 kg of gold worth Rs 11.63 crore has been seized from Guwahati in Hyderabad. The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) said on Wednesday that the SUV in which the gold was kept has also been seized. Also, three people in the vehicle have been arrested. The directorate said that the three people arrested have been sent to judicial custody.
Hyderabad-based DRI officials on Tuesday stopped an SUV at Panthangi toll plaza by increasing intelligence on the Vijayawada-Hyderabad highway based on intelligence. The DRI said in a press release that the vehicle’s airbags were removed and the gold bars were hidden inside the dashboard.
The Directorate said that the vehicle registration number was from Assam and it had reached Hyderabad by traveling 2,500 kilometers from Guwahati via Assam and West Bengal. The release said that preliminary investigation has revealed that the gold was to be brought from Guwahati to Hyderabad.
